Black Horse Golf Club 1/29/24

Course: Black Horse Golf Club

Location: Cypress, Texas

Here at Goat Ranch we are constantly looking for ways to improve for you, the readers. In this course we expanded our "Goat Ranch Scale" to more categories. This will mean at the end the max total score will be 60. So lets get into our day at Black Horse Golf Club

Facilities: 10/10

 - this was probably the easiest grade to give at this course. Black Horse leaves no stone unturned when it comes to making you feel at home. When you enter the parking lot you immediately see a tent offering you a car wash while you golf. With a massive club house/bar & grill overlooking the property it has the feel of a golf resort instead of your average public course. The pro shop was clean, organized , and stocked with the latest gear and equipment. The staff in the pro shop and also the bar area were top notch and outgoing. As you load up in your 1st class golf cart, complete with comfy leather seats and GPS, you head to the driving range. There is a convenient half way house located on the range where you buy range balls, also beer and other cold drinks. The range had fairly new hitting mats (with tee placement options), a practice bunker, and chipping/putting green. These options alone put it miles ahead of your local muni course as far as practice facilities go.

Conditions:

Greens: 7/10 - could use a little work, some burnt spots and a little crab grass on the collars.

Tee Boxes: 8.4/10- all boxes were level and well maintained.

Fairways and bunkers: 7.4/10- Dormant because of winter time but still nice to hit off of. Bunkers were raked and soft.

Pace of Play: 9.4/10 They had a stacked course for a Monday but we could not tell by the pace of play. Very few times did we have to stop and wait for a group ahead to clear.

Value: 6.2

Tee Time for a 1:00pm on Monday was 120 bucks. With it being winter time and the current conditions its hard to say anything north of 80 dollars is a good deal. The top notch facilities is what really saves this score from dipping below the 5ish range.

TOTAL SCORE: 42.4/60
